Tom Nesbitt – CEO
Tom, one of the founders of United Architectural Metals, has a long and distinguished career in the glass and glazing industry. Tom started working in the field in 1981 where he installed small to medium sized glazing projects. In 1982 he moved to a management position at one of Globe Amerada’s offices where he was further introduced to different segments of the glass and framing installation before moving to another job in 1985 that offered the chance to work on large scale projects with complex curtain walls.
In 1995 Tom founded United Glass and Panel Systems to fill a market void of a dedicated team of highly skilled glazers that were capable of handling the most difficult projects. The company has since grown to more than 50 employees after starting from only six. After being exposed to the curtainwall market, and the increasing demand for unitized curtainwall, Tom founded UAM as a unitized curtain wall specialist. Equipping his facility with state-of-the-art equipment and hiring architectural professionals, UAM hit the ground running with projects such as the new Detroit Metropolitan Airport and the iconic Phipps Conservatory.
Since its original founding, UAM has continued to be company that continues to push the envelope earning multiple business excellence awards from the local chamber of commerce, national recognition from Inc. Magazine as part of their Inc. 5000 Series, and multiple design related awards including recognition from the AIA.
